Seed Dance, A Forgotten Mutuality (2023)
Digitised super8 film and audio.
Duration 3ms 30s

A moving image depicts an out of focus playing of the sounds created by biodata to seeds, investigating the resonance experiments that increase growth capacity for plants. The work points to pseudo-scientific and experimental methodologies to increase plant productivity for human benefit and our further disconnection from the land. The audio track considers the expeditions to collect botanical and vegetal species and the mutualism between humans and agriculture. The work is derived from sounds of cutlery being used, glasses filled with water, a microwave and the sound translated biodata from the white clover, discovered along the shores of Dublin in 1978.

Exhibited at Malahide Castle and Gardens. Supported by Fingal Arts Office and The Arts Council of Ireland.
